In 2024, starting OTR BMW 1 Series prices for new vehicles ranged from £31,065 for the Sport trim up to £43,000 for an M 125 xDrive. But the list price for a vehicle could be higher, for example if it includes optional extras like the Technology Pack (includes adaptive LED headlights, folding wing mirrors with auto-dimming, high-beam assist, rear view mirror with auto dimming, and more for £1,550) or the Technology Plus Pack (Technology Pack features plus plus heads-up display, parking assist, and more for £2,750).

What price are BMW 1 Series cars really selling for in the UK? Across different trim and fuel types, NimbleFins analysis of brand new cars for sale in summer 2024 found that the average price for a brand new BMW 1 Series across different trim and fuel types was £34,883. This figure reflects the average of 228 brand new vehicles for sale across three trim levels (Sport, M Sport and M 125 xDrive).
Cost of a used BMW 1 Series
As with all vehicles, the cost of a used BMW 1 Series declines with car age. NimbleFins analysis of over 1,000 BMW 1 Series vehicles indicates that cars lose around £4,600 if they are resold in their first year, representing around 13% depreciation. Then a BMW 1 Series depreciates another 11% (£3,400) in the second year and 11% (£2,800) in the third year, on average.

BMW 1 Series Insurance Costs
NimbleFins market tests of hundreds of cheap car insurance policies found that a low-risk driver could pay as little as mid-£400 a year or so to insure a BMW 1 Series car, but some variants with larger engines and higher price tags can cost 25%+ more to insure. BMW 1 Series Road Tax Cost
Like insurance, the road tax for a new BMW 1 Series is highly variable, changing with different models and engines. For example, data from the Vehicle Certification Agency shows that the first year road tax ranges from £220 up to £1,095 for a BMW 1 Series, and some vehicles (those with a list price over £40,000, e.g. the M135 xDrive) incur an additional rate of £410 a year for 5 years from the second licence. Over the first six years, this means that the M135 xDrive costs an extra £2,925 in road tax compared to a 120 Sport.
